Hi
Some more WSIS stuff...
This has just been pointed out to me:
Statement by the working group on Patents, Copyrights
and Trademarks by RMS
http://www.itu.int/wsis/docs/pcip/plenary/pct-talk.pdf
rms has also been reading Boldrin and Levine:
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/boldrin-levine.html
and I think his arguments on patents in general are slowly shifting
to become more radical.
Also this groups disclaimer on the use of the term
"intellectual property rights" is interesting:
http://www.wsis-pct.org/ipr-disclaimer.html
especially with respect to Grahams idea of using the term
"monopoly rights" as a better alternative...
Hmm... the idea of 'monopoly rights' is it's a name which obviously
suggests (eg. to ultra-free-trade supporters, but not only) it's a
bad thing which should be abolished (ie. it's just as slanted a term
as 'intellectual property rights', though also true).
'Intellectual production rights' just sounds like something which makes
the existing setup more appealing to people who don't like 'intellectual
property rights' (I haven't read the paper with it yet, I just mean the
first impression of the words themselves).
