Hi list,
I think this translation of "Keimform" is unfortunate and can lead to
some rather awkward misunderstandings.
Let me suggest "seed form" instead, because "seed" is the figurative meaning
(übertragene Bedeutung) of "Keim", and because "germ" has the negative
connotation of pathogenic germs in medicine and war (germ=Krankheitskeim,
germ warfare = bakteriologische Kriegführung) -- so if you use the term
"germ form" for FLOSS, people could think FLOSS was meant as a contagious
disease to capitalism, or even as a lethal means of class warfare. ;-}
...as which it may appear to some capitalists, but I guess you don't want
to paint it in such pejorative ways... ;-)
