Book presentation: FLOSS+Art
With presentations by: Aymeric Mansoux, Marloes de Valk, Florian Cramer,
Michael van Schaik, Femke Snelting and Rio Kierkels
"FLOSS+Art", edited by PZI Media Design staffer Aymeric Mansoux and
Marloes de Valk with many contributions of Media Designs alumni and
staffers and supported by the Willem de Kooning Academy, is the first
book to cover Free and Open Source software (FLOSS) for artists and
designers not just as a technical tool, but as an artistic medium that
works differently and has its own philosophy, politics and aesthetics.
This event will be the official public launch of the book, with short
presentations on its contents and subjects. It is featured in the
framework of the new research program "Communication in a Digital Age"
of the Piet Zwart Institute.

Exhibition opening: Sound Track
Opening performance: One Man Nation (Marc Chia)
Works by: Dennis de Bel and Erik Overmeire
Curator: Geert Mul
The exhibition features sound objects such as the "fourgan",
a multiplayer organ sawn into a four pieces multiplayer instrument,
a runaway chair, and a music and image "track" based on slot car racing.
Dennis de Bel and Marc Chia are M.A. candidates in the Media Design
programme of the Piet Zwart Institute, Erik Overmeire a student in the
corresponding Multimedia B.A. of the Willem de Kooning Academy.
The works and artists were selected by Geert Mul, an internationally
acclaimed multimedia artist.
