Hi!
One reply to the interview I received indirectly, was this interesting
note. I'm posting it without permission so I don't include the name.

It used to be that Open Source == GNU Public License way back when in the
dark ages (mid-1980's to early 1990's).
Then along came Linux, which sort of coopted Open Source away from GNU &
Richard Stallman, who then came up with Free Software, to differentiate
himself (again) from everyone else.
There has been open source software for much longer than the 4 years since
Eric Raymond et al. started the Open Source Initiative.
I have no idea where someone can get off saying that. I have seen no
evidence of the term being used before that time. The *idea* existed, for
sure, but not the term itself. Some people have used the term to describe
what the did before; Linus has often said the work he did on Linux back in
1991 was "open source programming", but that's not what he called it back
then.
Further, I have documented proff that RMS did not just "come up" with Free
Software to differentiate himself. In the book "Hackers", by Steven Levy
(1994 edition), it says the following on page 436:
"As one might expect of the last true hacker, Richard Stallman has most
emphatically remained true to the ideals of the MIT Artificial Intelligence
lab. His company, the Free Software Foundation, is, according to 'Wired',
'the world's only charitable organization with the mission of developing free
software.'"
This passage is dated August 1993.
