[ox-en] Creating leverage, was: Report from Zuerich

Hi Stefan,

Good reality check, provoques a question (concerning Michael) unadressed
in your report. If there are so many producers of Free CMS in the market,
what could be done to create leverage for them and eliminate redundancy
between them? I think in order to "prove the Oekonux thesises" we must be
able to show the way to really reaping the potential benefits of Free
Software production. One of the benefits is that competitors can merge
their products, specialise on market segments or technical challenges and
leverage each others time without substantial loss. One of the
shortcomings of FLOSS I see, however, is that people start over and over
doing the same things just to get burned out eventually. This is a great
disadvantage.

So what is it that hinders Free Software Developers to do that important
step?
- shortsightedness (I have allready invested thousands of lines of
code...)?
- fear (This is my style, and I am affraid I could not support "someone
elses" product that well?)
- lack of mediation (someone must come up with a good and deep proposal) ?
- technical incompatibilities (I think these guys are doing it all wrong
and so they think about us) ?

I wonder....

Franz
