CL, this is how I define it: Peer production is any production process: - based on the free association of producers who consider themselves as equals (not using market allocation or corporate hierarchies for decision-making) - using peer governance processes geared at maximising participation (not using corporate or state hierarchies) - resulting in commons-based use value (universal common property, not public or private property) Free software <can> be the result of peer production, but not necessarity, since it could be produced in other ways. Peer production is much larger than FS/OS produced software, involving many immaterial processes throughout the social field, and beyond into material production.
