That's not quite true. For any non-trivial "real-world" software project
people will need to collaborate, just as much as in any other domain,
and thus very similar economic and social issues matter.
You may be able to clone a large source base easily, but you won't be
able to fork a project unless you have good leadership skills and
persuasive arguments for others to join you in the new project.
