I seem to remember that Graham had some ideas about this 
a while back, "monopoly rights"?

Yes, just that contrary to what rms is saying patents, copyright,
and design rights do have something in common - they involve the
legal granting of a right of monopoly. Which is why the extreme
economic liberals (from 19th century free traders to Milton Friedman)
have always opposed them.
